thecure: I have the same laptop. The easiest thing to do, until a permanent fix is made, is to simply hit F6 when the menu loads from the LiveCD, and then delete the 'splash' entry (and quiet too, if you want to see text scroll by).
The LiveCD will boot into the native screen resolution of the laptop (1440x900).
