The tl:dr is: if you're paying for enterprise support, buy the
expensive, branded SFPs.

If you buy a $20 SFP, keep a spare branded module for trouble-shooting.

That's important if you have automated monitoring of your switches, like
nagios.

And THAT is the concise answer to why people pay for the branded item.
If you have spare branded SFPs you can swap in when the cheap ones have
issues, you'll probably be fine. If you have a support contract and the
unhappy port has an off-brand SFP (or any port in the switch if they ask
for a config dump) you may wind up on the wrong side of a void warranty.
