We have DELL SFP cables connected to a pair of Nexus 5596 switches, they work. Can't speak for the "twenty dollar" variety, but.. There's a setting on the switch you need to enable to allow third-party SFP's to stop the switch from complaining loudly about them. I also believe that if you run into an issue and Cisco finds out they're non-branded SFP cables, you might run into support difficulty depending on the issue.
