john> Invalid media specification '1000baseTx-HD'. That makes me think that this server only has 100Mbit ethernet, not GigE at all. As Brandon says, try the 'sudo mii-tool -v' and see what it says. It might also be fixed by using one of the other options to force the card to re-negotiate the link. Can you post a full 'dmesg' for the system so we can look at the hardware? lspci -nnnv as well?
