John, I thought GigE was already full duplex by default? After all the horrors of the old sun HME card gettings 100 Full/Half duplex borked with Cisco switches. I can't remember the last time I had to muck with GigE like that.
Have you also checked the other end of the link to see what the switch thinks the port duplex is? And are you just trying to get more speed out of the box?
