Some reasons I stopped using them (all Dell/Sun):

- No real apparent advantages
- Make it difficult to access the rear of a server once they are racked
- Pain to install/remove/move cabling
- Capture heat/impede airflow

I'm actually surprised they're still being sold and used. If you do
not have cable management in place, a screw placed in the "middle" of
your rear rail screws (ie if you are using 1U, the middle of the three
screws for each unit) with a piece of velcro works as a simple/cheap
replacement.

Now I just use them to play robot in the server room when I am hiding
from upper management.
