Anthony - correct, but this annex language and not AHJs will agree.

I also will caution in many building, there are many control valves between the fire pump discharge and the system control valve. If one does not perform a main drain test at each system, how can you confirm all the control valves are in their proper position. In addition, the information for the General Information sign is needed and required to be compared for each system on an annual basis.

Seems like NFPA 25 might need some clarifications. This document is currently open for Public Input. Feel free to make an input.  The AFSA Technical Team will be reviewing this issue.

Of note: NFPA 25 -2020 A13.2.3 states that if on a fire pump which is tested annually it not required to perform a main drain test since the water supply is tested through the fire pump. So tis main drain would just be used to drain the wet system for any repairs needed.

Craig - 100% agree. All systems need a main drain piped to an acceptable place of discharge that can handle full flow with the fire pump system (if provided) operating.

There should also be a method to drain the fire pump system piping.

I’m not sure I understand the correlation between system drains and the subject of this post?

There needs to be a drain from each sprinkler system valve, wet, dry, PA or Deluge, doesn’t matter.

There needs to be a drain in the fire pump room.

Installing a Dry system fed from a pump and while running the 2” drain outside the building from the dry valve it dawned on me we never show a drain for the wet system. I’m assuming that’s taken care of from the casing drain on the pump?
