This is a "Which tool is better?" question. You will get different answers from different people depending on perspective.
For Red Hat systems, I would always choose RPM even if I had to make it. It is a very nice database that will tell you a lot of information. Any choice you make, you will have to learn that tool. I think some people avoid it because they either don't want to use it, don't trust it, or other methods fit their needs better (like trying to update multiple platforms with a consistent method). I am not convinced that RH RPM support for security fixes or application updates will go away. Fedora is still the RH engineering team. They will embrace methods other than RPM (like yum) but they will still support RPM. RH may not officially release the RPMs but Fedora may or RH may just release them without knowledge-base support. Support means more than RPM updates. I don't think they are willing to send the message to the world that they will not support what they have created. This is conjecture on my part. But if I were a paying customer and I saw that happen, I would probably look for another distro. --Larry > -----Original Message----- > From: Chris [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 4:53 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [SAtalk] CPAN or RPM's? > > > I reached that conclusion based on a posting on this site > yesterday.
