Let me clarify two things - 1) I specifically referred to the -Redhat- spamassassin RPM - the ones from apt and other places don't have the dependency chain problem. (Redhat = downloaded/installed via up2date) 2) I'm happily running current versions of sendmail / Mimedefang / spamassassin. I was advising someone else, not complaining of a problem here.
