Loud and clear :-)  (And I mean loud!)

I rebooted in the middle of processing today, and when it rebooted, it
seemed each message was being (re?) tested 1 at a time, and each took about
5 or 6 seconds.

Would it be possible/desirable to add a maxchildren option (or similar)
i.e. limiting the number actually processed at a time?

I'm sure others would benefit!
