Guess I should introduce myself ;) My name is Kevin Littlejohn, I'm based in Melbourne, and my girlfriend and I own/run a small company called Obsidian Consulting Group.
We started out as a group of tech consultants, throwing pretty much everything we had in the middle to see what we could do with it. 9ish years later, we've got 13 staff total, and seem to be surviving. We're primarily a tech company - have one sales/marketing person - and focus on content management systems/web application development (database-backed websites, that sort of thing) and a product, Jet, a voice and data billing system that sells to ISPs, telcos, education, and others. The company's grown without marketing, and without investment money of any sort. It's been interesting - we've had times we were very close to closing - but ultimately very rewarding. I've always kept half an eye on investment money, and am out looking around again at what's available as we're planning a European office shortly and a bit of extra cash wouldn't go astray, but it's always seemed like the best time to get investment money is when you don't need it ;) We're still really a startup, even though we've been around as long as some much larger companies - doing without marketing and investment capital has meant we've grown slowly rather than in bursts. I've joined Silicon Beach after it being mentioned by Mike Liubinskas at a recent get-together. Finding other people running businesses to chat with has been something I've had trouble doing, so it's nice to see a group of like-minded people and chatter ;) Hrm. That's mostly about the company, isn't it?
