Thanks David & Lang for getting the ball rolling. And since everyone has put their hand up, I thought I'd say G'day as well :-)
Nowhere near as much experience as Lang or David and those that have introduced themselves previously (read: I still get pimples... sometimes :P). I started off as an application developer and systems administrator at the University of Technology, Sydney in their Institute of Media & Learning. Following on to working as a penetration tester at Ernst & Young within their IT security consulting division. After a few years at UTS and EY, I moved into a boutique called Sense of Security as a web applications/networks security penetration tester. Recently (i.e. 4 months ago) after a lot of thought I quit the comforts and glamour of being a corporate - suit & tie dude with the gold frequent flyer card - to now, enjoying time to myself in my PJs, in my bedroom... ... coding my own projects of course :D I agree with David that Innovation Bay, OpenCoffee, Barcamp, Mobile Mondays et al. have been great ways to network with like-minded professionals and hope the effort to share knowledge keeps going; and everyone could benefit & learn off those that have been through the process of being VC funded (or not) and even simple things like maintaining motivation through a long development lifecycle, getting the accounting right, incorporating, legal counsel, co-working spaces etc. Additional kudos to Elias for opening up this list to all, its a good way to figure out who else is going through the start up phase in Oz! Cheers, Shaon P.S. Not a huge fan of really, really long walks on beaches, 'cause bike riding is so much more efficient ;-) On 01/12/2008, at 8:10 PM, David Jones wrote: > Thanks Lang, I like what trying to be achieved here and at other > places like Innovation Bay - we need entrepreneurial bootstrap > support in this country.
