But it's actually software, not hardware. If it wasn't

The only thing I can think is -alwaysshared may be disabled, try restarting
the server with this options and reconnect. Other than that I don't know.

Yes connected is very important.
That is how your DNS2Go works, it sends out your ip# and attaches it to your
dns2go url.
You should set your dns2go and VNC to auto start or SYSTEM start so they
always connect.

Sorry, I haven't been following the thread.
If you are Windows 9x/ME, try switching to TightVNC. WinVNC has a problem
that causes it to deplete system resources if the connection is too slow,
resulting in a system crash.
If you are using any other OS, please disregard.
On your STATUS tab on DNS2Go, is the ip# listed your isp ip# or your network
ip# ?
Also on the STATUS tab, does it indicate it's redirecting to port 5800 ?
I assume you don't have icq or you don't mind waiting on the pause from the
list.

Do you have the REDIRECT feature on DNS2G open to port 5800 ?
Meaning if you type in www.yourURL.dns2go.com it redirects to your ip#:5800

Maybe he is using bourne shell. :)
in which case you have to use $HOME instead of ~
cd $HOME
cd .vnc

Are you a unix person? '~' is your home directory. Try this:
cd ~
cd .vnc
ls
do you see xstartup?
Should see it this way too:
ls ~/.vnc/xstartup

Additional solution IF can get access to software on machine "B":
1)Install PortMapper from AnalogX
(http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmapper.htm) on MACHINE
"B" and forward ports 5801 and 5901 to the local i.p. of machine "C" with
redirect to ports 5800 and 5900 respectively.
2)

I have no idea. It came from the AT&T labs' VNC distribution.

Depending on your type of router used in your home internet sharing each
desktop should be assigned an IP# number, for example you mentioned;
192.168.0.2
I would purely guess, another computer on your home network is:
192.168.0.1
or
192.168.0.3
So...open the port 5800/5900 on the computer w
You are very close.
Are you trying from a 2nd computer or looping back on your original.

The java client must be served from the same machine as the vncserver.
Therefor, the vncserver has a build in webserver. Best to use this one. READ
the documentation for details.
BTW: the vnc webserver is at port 5800 + display number: for winvnc 5800,
for `Xvnc :3` it is at 5803.
