this is private (local) IP address... you should use the public ip
address when connecting via internet !
You should have a look to the faq http://www.realvnc.com/faq.html

Thank you, very much!
I will have time later today to follow your instructions.
I am not really a tech person, but VNC will save us money, as we are

our ISP. GoToMyPc for more than one computer seems a little expensive.

For getting through the router, please see the following URL:

As for the dynamic IP, the easiest way to handle this (unless you want to
"add a client" from the server) is by getting a dynamic DNS provider, such

First thing you need to do is "port forward" on the router in order to

are you seeing repeats of the same window? if so, I would think you are

More detail will be required. Things such as how many PCs, what operating
system(s) etc. Basically you're going to have to get into your router
configuration and open ports 5800 (for web viewer) and 5900 at the very

Every router is different. You will need to add a port forward for port

want to use the java viewer). Once that has happened, you will be able
to remotely connect using the external IP address that your ISP has

Yes, you need the IP your cable company gave you. You can get that by
going to: http://myipaddress.com
Then, from your friends house, either point the VNC viewer to that IP

in a browser (which will connect to 5800).
Good luck.
