[Unity-design] The Argument for the Unity App List Pagination

2012-02-15 Thread Colton Allen
I'm referring to the "installed" library for those confused on that account. I've formatted the email to make it easier to follow. *What is pagination?* Pagination is the sequence of numbers assigned to the pages of books, newspapers, or blogs. Pagination can also exist (in an iOS fashion) as a

[Unity-design] Gnome Panel Creates Window Offsetting

2012-02-20 Thread Colton Allen
If a user prefers to have their unity bar fixed (not set to autohide) then the close, minimize, and maximize buttons are offset to the left. It disjoints the experience. Why not have the Unity Bar take preference before the gnome panel. Users with a fixed bar will not be forced to deal with the

[Unity-design] Alt+Tab+Down-Arrow is inefficient

2012-02-20 Thread Colton Allen
We should replace the Alt+Tab+Down-Arrow with *Alt+Tab+Mouse-Down/Mouse-Up. *Alt tabbing is done with one hand so why should I remove my hand from my mouse at all? It seems like an awful lot of arm movement. The mouse-wheel could definitely be utilized to great effect with that feature and reall

[Unity-design] Remove Pornographic Apps from the "Apps available for download"

2012-02-23 Thread Colton Allen
So yeah, an app called "Porn View" showed up while I was demoing Ubuntu to a friend. Despite the brief embarrassment and explanations, I doubt that person will take Ubuntu seriously. We should probably restrict pornographic apps to the store and keep the lenses PG. -- Mailing list: https://launc

2012-02-23 Thread Colton Allen
Hey guys, I'd just like to apologize for the mess I've caused. When I started the thread I had no intention of creating such controversy. I'm sorry for the ruckus I've caused and hope we can all treat the problem with the seriousness it deserves. Jo is correct. "Offensive" is a relative term.

Re: [Unity-design] Installing Apps right from the Dash

2012-02-27 Thread Colton Allen
I wouldn't mind seeing the software center integrated into the dash with its own tab. Just one less thing to open and since its a core ubuntu function it should be included. On Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 7:57 AM, Chris Wilson wrote: > This sounds like it would be really useful if simply clicking on a

Re: [Unity-design] docky-like launcher magnification on mouseover

2012-02-27 Thread Colton Allen
I definitely agree with the general, community sentiment that features should not be removed because they don't conform to a narrow design vision. However, if you propose to add a feature you should probably provide more reasoning for the decision. That's not to say that animations shouldn't be p

Re: [Unity-design] some icons at low resolution

Are you using raster icons? That would explain distortion and pixelation. On Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 10:37 AM, supernova wrote: > Hi to all. I have noticed that some icons are at very low resolution. > I refer to these cases: > > a) skype icon in the dash: it really seams a very small icon, at low

I don't have any experience with HUD (upgrade issues :\) but I find this option less taxing on performance and more intuitive in the sense that it can be visually found rather than making the average user discover all the command shortcuts that make ubuntu great. I'm sure this will foster another

+1 for paginating applications. Personally, I never use the Unity homepage. The only time I ever use unity is to find applications. All the other stuff is extraneous to me and seems like a duplication of functions that exist elsewhere. Regardless of my unity habits, I do think that applications

[Unity-design] Panel Shadow Over Open But Not Focused Applications
