I am having the same problem. Stuck at "Searching for obsolete software",
nearly an hour and now at 97%.
Upgrading 22.04 to 24.04 from command line.
CPU at 100% noble process. I have Ryzen 5950X + pcie 4 nvme samsung, so
it is pretty fast but still taking almost an hour.

Were you able to resolve the disk issues? And were you also able to get
apt to fix its inconsistent state? Using dpkg directly may help when
trying to remove broken deb packages, maybe something like 'sudo dpkg
--remove --force-remove-reinstreq firefox'
Feel free to dig around as much as you want. I'll fully digest this bug
soon. The kpartx stuff should be mostly the same, I don't recall
anything that should've broke this between Focal->Noble.
