I have exactly the same problem. I have a separate partition for /boot
and the rest which is on an LVM. The fix proposed by Simon Déziel in his
PPA worked on my system.

background on startup. I don't use the Docky interface, just the
classic interface, and nearly none of the Gnome-Do plugins, just invoke
it with the Summon Gnome-Do shortcut

I disabled NoScript, now I keep getting the authorization request
messages the other bugs talk about. Bindwood should work with NoScript

I went ahead and tried the Live CD again using "live video=ofonly"
option. Result: Boots to desktop. The install kubuntu 9.10 starts

try to add option:
ModeSwitchMethod "new"
to the xorg.conf file.
Then attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file.
Attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after reboot if computer will freeze.
