Still a problem in Karmic. lsb-desktop still depends on lib4qt-gui, and
lib4qt-gui still describes itself as a "dummy transitional" package.
Dummy transitional packages should be removable -- nothing should depend
on them. Either lsb-desktop should be directed to the child packages
which libqt4-g
Version 1.8 is still affected (was the patch being applied to Jaunty?).
This is fixed in upstream version 1.9.1 (already in Karmic).

now display properly first time and no longer flicker for me.

I can confirm espeak is broken. I've tried on at least 3 computers with
various hardware configurations - laptops, desktops, fast, slow, all
32-bit Jaunty.
Mostly, it plays super-duper fast (like, an entire sentence in a
