Thank you for your comments Leann. The option is disabled in all linux-image packages available for any release of ubuntu. As the option is harmless unless it is explicitly enabled, I think it is a safe change in the default config and I would appreciate it very much (I use a dell monitor in portrait mode, so the console rotation is really helpful for me).
