BTW, calling gnome-mount from the shell works as expected, the device is
mounted and the usual "what would you like to do?" window is displayed.
So it doesn't seem to be a permissions problem or something like that,

Hello,
I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. although I've noticed that it
happens not just with Firefox but Konqueror as well. Stating the
obvious, I would suggest this is a OS bug rather than a browser bug.
Please let me know what files you'd like me to attach. I'm a noob when

Thanks for reporting this and so helping to improve Ubuntu.
I am not seeing this behaviour in Intrepid. How exactly are you trying
to install bibledit?
Even if this install issue were happening to everyone, it still should
not "crash your system" -- please provide more details about exactly

At least for i386 it is not a problem to use the Karmic kernel in
Jaunty, generally any newer kernel works fine. Also, since it installs
next to (and does not replace) the old kernel, there is no risk, you can

Synaptic complains that it can't find the key for the x-updates
repository. I have in fact successfully installed the correct key
0x3b22ab97af1cdfa9. The key that Synaptic is complaining about however
is 0x5EB2EDFE1FCB21DB, i.e. a completely different key. Can anyone tell
me what to do here?

Do you have frequency scaling enabled on the host? If so, could you
disable it, or pin your cpu and see if you see the oops again?
