OK, this problem was present in quite a few of the modules. The text was
set to visible so the invisible "●" character wasn't being displayed.
This patch corrects all of the instances where this happens in a
password field.
On the gmail module, the password field had * as an invisble character.

I tried to upgrade from gutsy to hardy-beta (using update-manager -d and
also through alternate-cd)
In both cases, it hangs in first phase(preparing to install).
The status shows "checking package manager".
Few debug info:

No LSB m
I am unable to reproduce this myself. Subscribing to see how others
handle this.

rpm installs fine on my machine. It looks like the download may have
been corrupted. Have you tried running `sudo apt-get clean` and then
trying the install process again?

You can't interact with things when Zoom Area Lock is enabled because
the X server does not support input redirection. In you insist on
reopening this bug I'll just reassign it over there where it belongs. We
might get this feature in a year or two.

I connected the drive to another computer and it has problems also -
which then seems like the problem was the drive. The problem really is -
it should rather disconnect the drive than cause frequent hangs on the
computer.

Like I said, this bug was on one of my client's machines, but not mine.
I did all sorts of fixes, to trying different music players to trying to
compile rhythmbox and nothing worked.
Finally I tried purging it, deleting the preferences, rebooting,
reinstalling rhythmbox and it actually got rid of
Fallen-Angel: The most important tenant of the SRU process is 'cause no
regressions in the current release'. The fact that this issue is a
regression from Gutsy to Hardy only makes it elegible for SRU scrutiny.
In this case, I cannot guarentee that disabling MSI for all cases won't
cause regression
