This is no solution for me. I need sane and I love some of the programs, depending on gphoto2. But I figured that I can access my camera using KDE 4.0. I had to connect twice but it worked. This first time no drive showed up but device settled both times according to dmesg. It seems this problem will resolve with a move towards KDE 4. Yet another reason to look forward to 4.1. :)
