I've reproduced the same issue with desktop 8.04 both 64 and i386 iso images downloaded from 2 different sites (MIT and Canadian) MD5 checks out on all and I've burned them on two different computers and all of them have this very problem. Needless to say that I've wasted a few CDs and a whole day today.
