OK, I ran the install for nagios3 using adept_manager. It looks like it
installed everything installed correctly:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/init.d$ ps -ef | grep nagios
nagios 8396 1 0 15:19 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/nagios3 -d
/etc/nagios3/nagios.cfg
jim 8576 6721 0 15:30 pts/2 00:00:00 grep nagios
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/init.d$

However, there seems to be a gotcha. I can't see it when I attempt to
load http://localhost/nagios/:

"Failed to Connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a
connection.

    * Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network
connection.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect
settings can interfere with Web browsing."

It looks as if it can't find a webserver? Not too surprising if that's
the case, because I don't have a webserver loaded on this desktop PC.
:) Missing dependency check?
