Yeah. if we just increase alpha and make the pre-light subtle , this should be
good.

be more subtle
@Matthew McGowan : Can we add alpha? also, what color does the pressed

Trying it in trunk, I agree it does look a bit annoying. Besides
flickering as you move over them towards other things, the icons look
disabled at the very moment you want to click them.
I'd rather this was reverted, if that's okay.

It looks like the aforementioned branch is now merged into trunk, so
you can checkout trunk and see what you think. I personally am not
sold on the change, if prelight effect is sought i think something
subtle in the bg would be nicer.
Anywho, we should await mpt's feedback before marking this bu
I have made the change, check this branch:
~mmcg069/software-center/prelight-icon-onhover
I sorta think the effect is annoying though. Also, I know mpt was keen
on the idea keeping prelight effects to a minimum.

Now the highlight has gone again.. :(
The text+icon get highlighted only when pressed and not on hover.
We can do a similar highlight when hovered.
Note that in Nautilus browser view and in unity too, the objects highlight when
we hover over it.
SC is the one which behaves odd here.

P.S. István Nyitrai, thank you for your patch and your work on this.
Since we are no longer using the webkit-based category view that your
patch was made for, the patch you provided can't be used now.
Nevertheless, please be assured that your contribution is very much
appreciated!

We have moved to a new GTK-based category screen in recent development
versions of Software Center in Maverick, and this now provides a mouse-

@mpt ,
gnome-shell does a simple mouse-over effect. The *box* around the application
icon becomes brighter. The icon doesnt have any effects though.
IMO , That would be simple and not too distracting.

The present main window is non-reactive and rigid. Having a mild feedback

I think we should avoid mouseover effects if at all possible, because
they are distracting (and that other programs use them does not stop
them from being distracting). There are dozens of possible ways we could
make the departments more clickable without using mouseover effects. So
