Further to my last note, there is an issue with my bios which is

I don't know if this might have something to do with the problem.

Hi José;
I'm not getting very far on this.
I downloaded the 2.6.32 kernel as per your instructions and installed it
using gdebi on my 9.10 system. It boots fine and appears to run fine.
The test you requested runs a bit differently than documented on the
wiki.
The first step of the script trie
Ok, I will give this a try and report back, though I think it will have
to be my Thursday evening (GMT-8).

Chris,
I'd better your test with 2.6.32. Just download your appropiate .deb's
from that web, and double click on the .deb files. gDebi will install
your kernel, and will take care of dependencies.
After your installation, a (two, really) new GRUB option will appear,
and you -hopefully- can start
I would be delighted to run that test, Pepe, but I have two (dumb)
questions first.
Shall I run this in Karmic with the 2.6.32 kernel?
If so, how do I install this non-Karmic kernel? (apt, synaptic, or ???)?

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your time and your tests.
Please, can you try this procedure?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting It also help us
to attach information for developers.
Thanks in advance.
P.S.: You can remove (with Synaptic) your 2.6.32 kernel in Karmic, but
probably
ARRGHH and RATS.
the current lucid live does not boot cleanly. with safe graphics mode

I tried doing a suspend from the live cd. It goes down to suspend OK,
but doesn't come back (screen never lights, though fan and keyboard LEDs

Ok, the lucid test it will be (no problems with the MBR, I have to
remove the Karmic HDD and replace it with a spare on which I will
install Lucid).
I'll let you know!

Chris,
I understand your point.
Yes, you can install latest lucid version from here
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/, or you can add 2.6.32
kernel to your Karmic system, and after your test, delete it.
Please take care of your MBR if you finally use a separate HDD.
Thanks

Hi Pepe;
I don't mind trying this but I'm not really sure what would be the best
approach. I have a spare hard drive; should I get the latest lucid,
install it, and try from there?
Otherwise, I don't mind trying something else, but in general I would
prefer not to mess with my (otherwise working
Hi all,
We'd like to know whether this is still an issue for you. If so, please can you
try with last kernel version, (Lucid upstream) which is located on
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32/?
Thanks in advance.

hi Chris and Clay:
I have the same problem with a Toshiba Satellite A70 PSA70C-ML100E.
Maybe this problem only affects Canadian models. So the same problem
exists for me, when i try to suspend. It goes into suspend okay, but
when i press the power button to bring the laptop out of suspend,

Well, that's embarassing. Thought that was going back to Chris...
Ooops. Anyway, it's posted now...

Hey, guess what! I found a partial solution! (Incidentally, the same
solution I found previously...)

Chris,
I have good news and bad news for ya... I've had hibernation working almost
perfectly on this model before, but I can't recall exactly how I did it! I
seem to recall searching for "ubuntu alternate hibernation method" a release
or three back...
The way I use my laptop, hibernation isn't
Nice to find a fellow sufferer! Do you have any idea as to whether we
should be trying to use some other kernel modules or recompiling with
some kind of better Toshiba support?
I have not yet tried this on 9.10. Maybe next weekend.

Same issue occurred to me. Poweroff then reboot brought everything back
to normal. Tried to test out hibernate to see if both suspend and
hibernate are affected. Same issue -- system did not hibernate
successfully, with apport popping up after the current boot to report
the bug.
