Hey, guess what!  I found a partial solution!  (Incidentally, the same
solution I found previously...)

Follow the instructions verbatim and it works in Karmic.  At least, the
hibernate stuff works.  Suspend to RAM still seems to need work, but it's a
start!

Try it out, and if it works, I'll post a note on the bug...
