Although I have not got around to adding this on launchpad, I got my

Yes, complementing my previous comment, I am attaching the NVIDIA bug
report Log. I know that you cannot change or improve the NVIDIA drivers
but maybe in the log you can see what is causing this rare behaviour
(maybe a misinteraction between the packages, as I asummed previously)
and fix it accor
Maybe an additional note is that it behaves like this when having to
interact with the NVIDIA propietary drivers (actually I am using
185.18.36).

I have seen this several times before with Jaunty. I believe

In my case, installing linux-backport-modules-jaunty also solved the

cause : an iwl3945 (or maybe more generally iwlagn) crash.

I ran into this same system similar after upgrading to Jaunty on a
system that uses autofs and network-manager. The problem was that
network-manager by default does not share the connection, so when the
user logged out, networking stopped and any network filesystems that
were mounted when the user
Just noticed the bug was "confirmed" for "usplash". If installing linux-
backport-modules-jaunty solved the problem for many of us, maybe the bug
is not entirely "usplash" related :??
Looks like it is a double bug: half related with the WiFi card not
stopping because the module, half related to so
Some news: I fixed both the poweroff problem *AND* the random freezes by
installing linux-backport-modules. The problem was related to iwlagn,
finally.

I have the same problem and my video card is an Intel 4500, so it
doesn't seem to be video card related. I've read in another bug report

module, but again it is difficult to know.
Right now the iwlagn module seems to be related
I don't think it is a radeon driver issue as I have an nvidia graphics
card and use nvidia's proprietary driver.

All,
I may have solved this issue.
I just installed two different kernels, the vanilla "generic" and "server".
All exhibit the same behavior as I fist listed above.

instead of "UMA+Sideport"

I'm marking the ubuntu-release-notes task invalid here. Whatever
problems people are having with shutting down in jaunty, this doesn't
appear to be generalizable, or even understood well enough that we could
tell users anything useful about it in the release notes at this point.
We don't want this
