Please upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10. It installs the proprietary software for
BCM43xx. No need to use ndiswrapper anymore.
At least for me it worked with a Dell Inspiron 531, 64 bits and a Broadcom BCM
4318 wireless card.
Of course I can't garuantee, but it's worth trying.

I went through the process outlined in strikton's post above, but all it
did for me was allow my 4318 to detect wireless networks. (yay) Device
will not connect to *any* wireless network - WEP, WPA, or open. Would
love to see this fixed somehow as I really want to be a fan of Linux. I

I got it fixed, and I don't know exactly what did it. I think a bad
signal was part of the problem. iwconfig showed connection quality
around 40/100. iwconfig wlan0 essid works for now.
But I still can't see available AP's in de network manager or the gnome
manual config. But iwlist wlan0 sca

I own 2 Linksys WPC54G cards (PCMCIA) with the BCM4318 chipset onboard.
I can install the driver, b43-fwcutter runs auto but after the reboot,
the driver reports "not in use". Tried bcm43xx version. It loads without
error but doesn't seem to work.
Tried the ndiswrapper option but still no results
This is a general problem with ubuntu 8.04. I have intel 3945 and I also

The card worked just fine with drivers from alpha4, but after switching
kernels, I had to reinstall the drivers and it no longer worked. Because
of this, and many other issues with the laptop I decided to do a fresh
install, but the same issue came up. Clearly the new driver fails. Is

I was able to duplicate this problem with a BCM4306 using a new install.
When I downloaded kernel source and built my own kernel, the problem was
gone. Shortly thereafter, the updater installed a new kernel that also
worked. I have not been able to determine what changed. This was with
kernel 2.6.2
I also have the same problem but for me under network manager I don't
even see any networks but the card is on. This is issue is present
whether I upgrade or install fresh.
