This is a general problem with ubuntu 8.04. I have intel 3945 and I also get error "wlan0: authentication with AP xxxxx timed out". Signal is 45% strength.
Another problem with ubuntu 8.04 is that nm-applet doesn't show wifi networks. I have to put it manually. Wifi network is a MUST actually (it is a "system application", not a "user application" like gedit). A system without network is actually died. I don't understand HOW is possible that wifi network is not working on ubuntu.
