The crash at least is an nvidia issue and thus impossible to debug. Not
sure about the rest.

I think this bug should be reopened, since there is no confirmation of a
fix with a hardy install (using compiz and nvidia-glx-new), and I can
reproduce it every time.
To me, the fact that xdvi doesn't display properly until a resize is a
very minor issue. The crashing of the X server is much mor
I an currently running Hardy on both my machines and I do not see these
problems anymore. However, on both my desktop and laptop I am using the
onboard intel graphics, so I cannot comment on what happens with the
nvidia or other graphics drivers. In fact, I normally have all the
compiz effects tu
I get both of these problems on the two up-to-date hardy systems I have
access to. One is running AMD64 and the other is running the 32-bit
x86. Both use the nvidia-glx-new binary driver and have compiz enabled.
The 64-bit machine has this video card:

I have a similar problem, I don't know if it is related: if compiz is
running and I start an xdvi in expert mode, then the X server crashes. I
can start an xdvi in normal mode, but if I switch it to expert mode then
it makes X crash too. However, when running xdvi in standard mode, the

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the
live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy
Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work
on getting it fixed in the actively developed release. You can find out

I also have precisely this problem. It is exactly as described by Brett. I'm
running Ubuntu 7.10 on an AMD64
system. My most recent apt-get dist-upgrade was 30 minutes ago. I'm using
compiz. Xdvi doesn't display.
Resizing makes it work again.
I've had other issues w/xdvi. E.g., it will ignore th

Yes, the problem exists in a completely up-to-date gutsy (I was using
gutsy when I first reported it). As I said in my second post, simply
resizing the window causes the dvi file to be displayed properly, but it
is a bit of an annoyance to have to do this every time. I have no idea

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release?
Thank you.

Hmmm, I just found that if I resize the xdvi window then the dvi file is
suddenly displayed and all is well. The initial problem seems to occur
regardless of the initial window geometry, and is fixed by resizing.
Just moving the window does not do the trick.
Interestingly, if I click on the windo
