I can confirm that with the dwarves package in proposed
(1.21-0ubuntu1~20.04) I can successfully build the Ubuntu mainline
kernel from source (tested version 5.13.19) using git commit from:

20.04 LTS, and version 5.14.3 has just finished building on launchpad
this morning, so any package you installed yesterday was nothing to do
with me ;-)

Recent mainline packages are built with
Couldn't this be treated like other packages for which multiple versions
exist using the "alternatives system". Ie add the newer dwarves package
required for new kernels as dwarves1.21 and run update-alternatives
afterwards? Anyone out there who uses dwarves for anything other than
the kernel would

Well that's new, those folders with the failed builds used to be mostly
empty, apart from a few miscellaneous files (change logs, etc). It looks
like some process has now copied that particular 5.11.20 version into
them? How strange?

so I've just blown the dust of mine and installed Natty. Vertical Scroll

was (or maybe it was trying to use 6?). My last log says the system
crashed, but I don't think it did, maybe upstart/reboot failed to write
to utmp properly?

Me too. Upstart is not starting all processes. My box has been running

I wasn't, I was logged on via ssh.
I have just tested it again on the console (/dev/tty1), and I get
exactly the same output. Nothing on the ALPS device, everything on the
PS2 mouse device.

Patch -> If /etc/resolv.conf is a SYMLINK, then overwrite the target
file, not the SYMLINK.
Possibly fixes another bug: NM checks if tmp_resolv_conf is a SYMLINK,
and if so writes to the file pointed to by the symlink. However, when it
replaces resolv.conf, it will do so with the symlink, so
/etc/

then do nothing.
If we find /sbin/resolvconf, but the execution of it fails, then check

Should Network Manager fail to update the resolver via the resolvconf

CONNMARK is not included in the ubuntu kernel either.
This makes it a lot more difficult to mark all related packets in a connection,
which makes advanced routing with fwmarks more complicated if not impossible :(
