In jaunty I can confirm this quite old and very annoying bug, which no

I can say this about 8.10 i386 beta: if I start a Gnome session,
everything is ok. If I start a kde session, it hangs after a while, and
switching to a console, with 'ps ax' I can see multiple lines with scim-

In fact it doesn't work now for me too. I don't know why at this point,
maybe because of some other updates in dapper to the kernel (I am using
2.6.15-26-amd64-k8) or to xserver-xorg, or to ati drivers for my x700 (I
am using the the proprietary one, version 8.26.18).

I have recently installed dapper drake amd64 choosing English as language for
the installatiion, but Italy as my location.
I discovered I have this two entries in /etc/environment:
LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="en_IT:en"
The second one seems a little strange
I have the same problem here (notebook Acer Aspire 5024 with ati radeon x700
and kubuntu dapper amd64) both installing the Dapper's Included Driver (8.25.1
and
generating Ubuntu packages for the 8.25.18 drivers in Ubuntu Dapper manually,
but the error message is different:
