After today upgrade in intrepid, kde 4.1 desktop with composite effects enabled was not working (black screen); downgrading libgl1-mesa-glx , libgl1-mesa-dri and libglu1-mesa to older versions (~rc3-1ubuntu4) fixed the problem.
