an infinite number of instances of xfce4-display are being launched
this makes the computer UNUSABLE
this started happening on my computer after a recent upgrade, prior to that it
did not happen.

this occured with windows 2000, and I am pretty sure that it happened
exactly as described, but that was awhile ago I might have misremembered
something. It probably also depends on the specific sequence of the
partitions.

okay, that is indeed very sophisticated, but I'm still trying to figure
out why I ended up with an unbootable system. In that scenario I was
doing a downgrade from a newer/updated version of the beta.
I note that /boot was not deleted. one possibility that comes to mind
is that the newer kern

sorry for the delay, I ran out of time, will try to get
well, it was an uncontroled situation... I did an install, installed a
bunch of upgrades, made some other changes, and decided I needed to
start over. so then I reinstalled from the iso, and decided to take the
quick way out and not reformat or erase the existing, but just to
install over the top
okay, give me a few hours... and I will do another repro using vbox.
But I have already reprod this 3 times using a real hard disk partition.
basically I have a multiboot system with about a dozen partitions... but
I'm sure you don't need anywhere near that many to repro this.

original value that was placed into the Change dialog, to the value that
was returned from the dialog. This comparision must be preformed on the
numeric value so as to avoid getting confuse

it's not the sort of thing you are likely to notice unless you are

load... my usual technique is to open severel virtualboxes and then
have each one play a video, but on this os, I have not used it in so

okay, here is the data you have been waiting for...
but first thing to know is that I have put my laptop on a stand to
increase airflow, thus it's over-all temperature is now about 3 degrees
cooler than the above observations. none-the-less even with better
airflow it still hit 96c and climbing,
P.S. deleting random pieces of the script/program in the hopes that it
will bypass the problem -- without taking the time to fully understand
exactly what the impact will be -- has got to be one of the worst ideas
ever you might just as well start deleting random files from /etc
or /boot to
further thoughts... now that I have done half-a-dozen full installs plus
many tests...
I think some of the reports above of failures are actually false
positives. What many people probably do not realize is that partman is
very slow... I have not benchmarked it for the exact timing, but it's

partman to fail. This will happen if a file is in use on the partition
to be unmounted.
If partman should fail in it's attempt to unmount the partition, then it
will hang.

I have now tried natty 10.04 64 bit
which is supposed to be the latest and greatest
and it totally does not work. at least with 10.10 I could actually
record sound even if it does get cut off, but with 11.04 I can't even do
that, I have no sound input at all.
