this bug annoys me a lot. i've got these pa_stream_writable_size()
failed freezes very often, from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, but it comes
back over and over again. I can't listen normally to music anymore. it
happens in exaile and rhythmbox too. youtube also loses sound, but
there's no pulse error
It's not the same issue like in the bug. As you can see in the attached
picture, it's completely readable, only there's a black frame around the
notification.
And IIRC when you set renderaccel off, the system gets significantly slower.
About suspending: does it work for you? For me the backlight

I did the upgrade, still without the above PPA.
Either the 2.6.32.18 kernel, or the 1.7.6 xorg fixed the issue, so I can log in
now without a xorg.conf now.
There are some lesser glitches though, suspend doesn't work, and the notify-osd
rendering is faulty when hovering over the mouse.

sorry, a little clarification:
-sound restarts if i do it manually after resume
-my original, working script had "start" and not "restart" in line 6
-blocks means it cannot go to suspend or hibernation, the suspend led flashes
one, the sound goes offline, but the networking returns and everything

restarted alsa-utils after suspend/resume, it was quite simple:

tpb doesn't start from its init script /etc/init.d/tpb
invoking sudo /etc/init.d/tpb start at terminal starts the daemon
the script itself runs at startup, i checked it by adding an echo after tpb -d
for now, i had to add /usr/bin/tpb to the sudoers file, so i can run it at
i have interesting news:
i reinstalled my system to a full xubuntu install, and the bug is gone. mplayer
and totem gives xv output without any problems at 16 bits. the xorg.conf is the
same that was on the previous isntall. (it was a vanilla xfce desktop on a cli
ubuntu)

this is still an issue in 9.04. tpb doesn't run at startup from its init script

In the meantime you can use tpb instead of hotkey-setup.
It requires its own hacks (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tpb/+bug/158262 ), but will give on
screen feedback.

it seems that its group is kmem, that's why I can't read it with my user added
to nvram
for now, I added /usr/bin/tpb to sudoers, so it can be run without a password,
and added
tpb -d to run at session start

I added my user to the nvram group, and still can't run tpb, only with sudo.
Why doesn't it start at all, if it's in the init scripts?
