I also now remembered that the icons on the top panel (NM, sound and Shutdown)
were screwed up on the very first login before I installed anything.

Trash is such a rarely used feature that I don't think it deserves a convenient
shortcut.
I'd suggest Super+# (i.e. Super+Shift+3), Super+- (minus) or Super+` (back
tick) could also do.
Instead, I'd reserve Super+T to Terminal, a much more used and logical
application.
I'd also suggest: Super+B

I feel really ashamed that I don't understand the intricacies of color
blending and such, but what I know for sure is that this theme strains
my eyes hard. I don't think I'll be able to stand it for long.

I think I've found the problem. The culprit is the "no_proxy"
environment variable. Once I unset this wget starts honoring http_proxy
setting. Perhaps the "no_proxy" format as set by gnome-settings
automatically has syntax error.

I have one more observation - this behavior is almost always accompanied by a
second taskbar item "Starting Firefox Web Browser".
