Some more information: I'm using the config. option 'Focus follows
mouse' (In window manager -> Focus). If I change it to 'click to focus',
the text-entry plugins can get focus again. However, I do very, very
much prefer the 'focus follows mouse' mode, so it would be very very

I realize I phrased myself in a somewhat confusing manner in the comment
above. What I meant was:
In the (otherwise quite nice) installer, the "screen goes blank" problem
was present. However, on the system it created on my hard drive, X works
fine.

Since X in Jaunty is too broken to even let me switch to a console, I
can't run anything there. I therefore downloaded the newer version of
radeontool and used in Intrepid. regdump_good.txt is from my main 8.10
installation with the fix described in the initial posting,

I've just installed Xubuntu-8.10 on a computer with an ASUS M2N
motherboard, AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core BE-2400 CPU, and a ATI Radeon HD
2400 PRO graphics card.
I had some problems with X: after booting from the installation cd,
instead of starting X,
Encouraged by the OP's success, I just tried again on my laptop with
8.10 beta (see my previous posting for more details) after updating all
packages (apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade) and now it works for
me too.

Suspend-to-disk (hibernate) and suspend-to-ram do not work anymor
I'm not original poster either, but I also have the problem with non-
working suspend and hibernate with xubuntu 8.10 beta on my HP compaq
nc8430 laptop; when I choose either alternative from the 'quit' window
in xfce, the window disappears, but nothing else happens (as if I had
chosen 'cancel').

command 'gvim', which gave me the following message:
