hi!
I'm maintaining a RedHat 6.2 installation CD with
all the RH updates plus some extra packages for
our internal use.
This has been going fine up until now, when the RPM
database and headers changed with the rpm 3->4 change.
I can generate a new hdlist by using the genhdlist from
the redhat 7

It might be a useful test of RPM 4, but I'd not expect it to add anything

I've yet to have any issues. The biggest change between 3.04 and 4.00 is the
database handling where it

Did you test this with the latest (3.0.5-9, for example) RPM v3?

distribution land, though I know it has been discussed here before.
How can I upgrade smoothly from rpm-3 to rpm-4 (without downloading an
iso cdrom image, and preferably without a reboot)? The question might
have been where

Here is what I did to convert to rpm-4:
1. Tried to patch from "Gene C." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> to include v4 in
rpm-3.0.4-7: Did not build any longer, since I'm now using
glibc-2.1.90.
2. Tried the same patch with rpm-3.1-0.21 from an earlier rawhide:

I built rpm v4 from CVS tree and then installed the rpm v4 packages from
rawhide only
to encounter the exact problems you describe with names and such being
screwed up.
To fix I went back to the CVS source did make install again to replace the
rpm installed
by the rawhide packages, and did a rp
OK, no warentee ... use at your own risk.
The patch below will enable rpm-3 to handle SRPMS built with rpm-4. I have NOT
tried to handle binary installs!! However, this will enable someone to install
and rebuild from source.

Thanks, but it's too much hassle for me right now. I'll give it a quick
try tonight on the test machine that gets RedHat reinstalled at least
daily. ;)
hi,
where can i find the rpm4 sources(tar.gz) ??
The files at ftp.rpm.org are very _old_ <= 3.x

Just as an FYI, the upgrade went semi-smoothly. Here's what I discovered:

Just for fun, I've built an RPM of RPM 4.0 from the pristine 4.0-0.33 SRPM
using RPM 3.x (you know, that still confuses me ;-) and placed the results

Trying to rebuild rpm-4 straight from the CVS repository:
[root@ciccillo rpm]# ./autogen.sh
You need to install:
libtool-1.3.5
autoconf-2.13
automake-1.4
Autoconf and automake are OK, while libtool is v1.3.4 (same as RawHide).

I was dumb enough to try also rpm-4*.src.rpm and rpm-3.1*.src.rpm
How is one supposed to upgrade to packages built with rpm-4.0 using
rpm-3.x?, especially rpm-4.0. Any binaries of v 4.0 available somewhere?
