I had trouble with php and mysql until I changed two settings in the

The first wouldn't apply to the snippet you showed but might help others:

The second might help:

I'm running stock RH 8.0 (fully up2date). Has PHP version 4.2.2-8.0.5
I can't help you with sendmail... I never understood the configuration...
went with postfix instead.

I'm pretty new to linux, but I was able to follow nVidia's documentation
and compile then install the kernel and glx (-4191.tar.gz).
Made a huge difference on my machine.

Just a side note. I have recently paid for basic service. Although I

slots.
I finally got a new MB. Both sticks worked together fine

t a guess... but is it possible that when you boot
into linux, you are not able to see the dhcp server and
therefore unable to get an ip adress? Then when you run
dhclient -r you would get the error.
Try running just "dhclient" and see what happens.
Again... I may be dead wrong and just was
t also.
A word of caution... the downgrade broke postfix on my machine.
I had to manually change some files and symlinks in
/var/spool/postfix/lib after the downgrade. Don't know yet if anything
else took a hit.

If I understand correctly, it seems the reason to jump a major version
is because the new glibc breaks binary compatability.
OK... that makes sense.
Why then would RedHat introduce a new glibc into RH 8 that breaks
compatabilty with some programs (wine comes to mind and apparently
VMWare)? Shoul
ease
( RH 9.1 or 10.0? :) ).
Maybe someone at RedHat will actually make an rpm available once
wine is 'fixed' to work with the new glibc.

Read the post.
It's not a whine about RH 9.0. I said it makes sense!
It's a *whine* about breaking RH 8.0 The version of glibc that came as an
update for RH 8.0 breaks compatability with some program
m, but I don't know what else may have been broken (if anything).

Before you start the app, but after you get the shell prompt
on the remote system, what does 'echo $DISPLAY' output?
On your client system, is 'ForwardX11 yes' in your ssh_config

have something like this setup?
X11Forwarding yes

The symptom you described is consistent with not finding the boot
loader. That's
n the linux boxes. I finally gave up and
connected a mouse direct to the linux box. Scrolls just fine that
way. I've heard that some kvm's work with the wheel... and some don't.
