I think the Quicktime icon is the culprit here; I used to have Quicktime and
it did the same, then I uninstalled it completely also with the plugins and
it got back to normal. So just try uninstalling it and see if there is some
improvement.

So it should work with you.

in your case, that comes out to 768.
Then defrag the heck out of that bad boy and see if that helps.
I'd also add ram as 512 is a little light for Xp, Jaws and Sound Forge in my
