Does the card show up in Device Manager? Easy way to check is to go to Sounds and Audio Devices Properties in Control Panel. Then go to the hardware tab. A list of audio devices will show up. You can check the device properties there and there is also a trouble shooting button. Bob. -

Ok, so could you not say tell Winamp from the output plug-ins section to use the external sound card directly and have Windows use the in-built speakers of the laptop as a default sound card for system sounds? That way JAWS or whatever should work just fine, giving sound through the in-built sound
