Many times this problem is due to your sound card. Though I have the same
brand of
card on both my laptop and my desktop, the desktop will allow me to monitor
where the
laptop will not. I have no clue why this is.

Hi,
I am using goldwave, the latest version, 5.22. I am in the midst of making
my first recording from cassette to computer in order to make a cd from the
cassette. As far as I know, I have made all the right settings, and the
tape is recording. However, though I check the monitor input prom
If other floppies work, then the disc is probably bad. If others do not work,
try a new drive. You could also try another computer with a floppy drive. The
last alternative would be a disc editor, but I've not myself seen one that's
usable.

Hmmm, hope it works, I really hate those things which are "driver specific"
or depend on software to work, it's a sad fact of life that a lot of stuff
for Windows is like that these days.

Hi. Well, that's exactly what she wants to do, but as I said in my
original post, all atempts to get the external sound card seem to be
failing. It *does* show up in device manager, and Winamp does see
it. She set it up so that her speech would come from her internal
card on the laptop she's

Seems like from everything I'm seing, and the more posts I read,

Dear Cris:
Recently purchased an external sound card to add to the internal card of my
newer notebook which has a 1.0 USB port whereas the newer notebook has a 2.0

works like it should when used on the old notebook. I'm s

Does the card show up in Device Manager? Easy way to check is to go to
Sounds and Audio Devices Properties in Control Panel. Then go to the
hardware tab. A list of audio devices will show up. You can check the
device properties there and there is also a trouble shooting button.

Ok, so could you not say tell Winamp from the output plug-ins section to use
the external sound card directly and have Windows use the in-built speakers
of the laptop as a default sound card for system sounds? That way JAWS or
whatever should work just fine, giving sound through the in-built sound
Ok, well a question from my point of view, did this person have any
particular need for a SB Live external card? I mean an Imic is a great
choice for an external device, works on just about everything that boasts a
USB port.

Hi Bob
From what we can tell, no sound appears to be coming from it, even
when headphones or speakers are plugged into it, that's the root of
the problem. What is interesting about this whole thing is that when
her room mate hooks up her external card to the same computer, it
doesn't work ei
Can you set the SB Live to be the default sound card and get system sounds
