Gmail/Google does support IMAP IDLE, so on macOS it *should* be working
automatically. But, bugs in the implementation mean that sometimes it stops
idling, so you can't rely on that. If it doesn't work reliably, check the check
mail interval is set to every minute in Mail's set
IN GENERAL, MAKE SURE CHECK FOR NEW MESSAGES IS SET TO AUTOMATICALLY.

Only the All Inbox can be collapsed. I can only view the iCloud mail boxes.
The other 4 accounts are not in the mailbox list other than the inbox in the

As for having to interact with the toolbar, Like I said, sometimes there is no
toolbar
I think your Mailbox list is collapsed. VO J no longer works the way it should.
Try using your vO Keys in the settings for mail and System settings and see if
they disappear. You’ll have to interact with the toolbar to go between tabs.

In the latest Mac OS, where do you find the address info when viewing a
message? That is who the message is from and to? This is not when composing a
message but when reading email.

No, just interact with the table then arrow keys. Its not that
complex a task.
