Hi here is what I do to get rid of it all though it does not seem to work for
me.
Go into mail preferences to switch to classic layout which is found in the
view tab. Check the box that says use clasic lay out. Next close the
preferences in mail and navigate to the spliter that is found
Interesting. You're right, when I interact and use VO-arrow keys, nothing
changes. Still the standard view looks very cluttered to me. I think I'm
going back to the classic view. :)

Hi,
Strange indeed. If you are just using arrow keys, then the reason the Mailbox
is changing is due to keyboard focus. Those items will not usually gain
keyboard focus since they are not editable or modifiable elements. If when you

Strange. Mine seems to act as lists, that is to say, I can change the selected
mailbox from any of the three places.

Hi,
Not sure why your items are appearing as MailBox lists. The MailBox items
prior to the ToolBar should just be titles or Headings announcing what Mailbox
has focus at this point in time along with the number of Unread messages in
that MailBox. Try Interacting with them and try determine if
Hi Tim,
Moving to the right from the messages column, the first thing I see are two
listings of mailboxes. then I go past the vertical splitter, see the toolbar,
the favorites bar, and then another listing of mailboxes. So why all these
different mailbox lists?

Hi Kliff,
I found something that says list preview which I think is your setting.
Wouldn't have worked for me b/c I was using classic view, but thanks for the
suggestion. I'll keep it in mind should I change to standard view.

Hi,
Actually, to the right of the Toolbar, there is usually the Favourites Bar and
the MailBoxes list and a few pop-up menu for MailBoxes etc. To the left should
be the Messages list and some headings referring to which MailBox has focus.

Sorry, lines for message preview may be the correct phrase. But I set this to

Hi again,
Just one more question. For grins, I switched out of Classic view. Now it
looks like there are three separate mailbox lists, two to the left of the
vertical splitter, and one way over on the right, past the toolbar. why these
three separate mailbox lists? do they do the same thing
Hi,
Regarding Kliphton’s solution, I believe that he is referring to the
Preferences in Mail itself, not System Preferences. Interesting solution
though. It works as we hope when in the Modern or Standard view for removing
Preview pane issues but not while in Classic view. One must still dra
Well, I have no idea why, but it's gone! lol. I did change my trackpad
settings according to Anne's directions, but it still didn't work a couple of
times after that. So, I have no clue why it finally worked, but thanks Anne
and Tim, for the help. Looking forward to a lot less VO jabber now.
Kliph, Are you running an older OS? There is no Preview Message option in
Yosemite system prefs that I can find.

Hi Donna,
It looks like you missed the Horizontal Splitter when you performed the drag,
that would be why the file is on your Desktop. What happened was that the
message itself was dragged to the Desktop instead of the splitter being dragged
to the bottom of the screen. I did take a minute to
What is the big issue with the preview pain? I just go to system prefs in
mail, go to viewing, set the preview message option to none, use my favorites 1
threw 9, and I see no preview, and mail works perfectly. JMO

Hello Donna,
Whenever I’ve had to remove the preview pane using the trackpad, what I’ve done
is to press down on the trackpad with one finger, and stroke the trackpad
towards me with another finger. However, it may depend on your trackpad
settings in System Preferences. Here are my settings:

And further weirdness, I somehow ended up with a file on my desktop with the
subject of this message followed by the suffix dml.

Hi Tim,
When I do this, when I go to press and drag on the trackpad, I'm just taken
over into the preview pane. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? thanks for
the help.

Hi Donna,
My Preview pane settings stuck when I upgraded to Yosemite, so, I’m not having
your same frustration. Here’s some instructions for you though that I posted
back when Mavericks first was released. Not sure how, or if they still work in
Yosemite, but it’s probably worth a try.

Thanks, Georgina. I'm running Yosemite, and your directions aren't working
here either. thanks for posting them, though. Maybe this is just an annoying
Yosemite thing we have to live with. I made the preview pane go away years
ago, and it never came back until I upgraded.

Hello Donna,
It would be nice to know that too. However, here’s what I did that worked but I
don’t know exactly how it worked.
Go mail prefs, view and tick classic view.
Go to system prefs, accessibility options and enable mouse keys. You should be
able to press option quickly 5 times. That lat
Hi all,
I think the directions I have for this are from the days of Snow Lion. Can
someone post current directions?
Thanks,
Donna
