Hi! Sorry to come back on this but, alas, cannot get tex and lyx to
register classes in which I have many documents, e. g. g-grief.de, for
which there is a template.
All the classes I am looking for are found in
/usr/share/lyx/layouts/.

column, using acroread's "Column Select Tool"? You can copy a column
and paste it

Problem: When using pdflatex, the output is not A4 but Letter sized (it
seems).
Have you tried setting the Layout -> Document -> Paper -> Paper Size
option to A4?
