Just a quick post on my results with a new set of RV-style wheel pants.
Background: Tri-Gear Stock KR2S, RAF48 airfoil, ~650 lbs empty. 80 HP
Revmaster 2100D. 111 KTAS cruise (no wheel pants).
Mains (only) Speed Increase = 7knots
Nose Gear (only) Speed Increase = 4 knots
Total Speed Increa

I managed to find some small driving lights that (with a little time and
patience) will "flush-up" into the nose of the pants and actually take
on the original curvatu
It is a personal choice and depends on how much snow, slush, and mud your
local area gets.
Some guys will remove their wheel pants each winter and others will
reframe from flying when their is snow or slush on the runways and taxiways.

This morning at daybreak I made my first flight with the wheel pants installed
on my plane. What a huge difference in speed. I was tooling along straight and

I will vouch for that. I only have the nose wheel covered right now. I
have the John Backer pants and just the nose wheel gave me 8 mph. If I
ever get back in the air, I will get the main gears covered with pants
too.

There was an article in the EAA magazine several years ago about a Glasair
trike that gained 15 miles per hour speed from a special designed wheel pants.
I don't know which year/month it was but look it up Mark, it might be worth it
to you.

I've flown with two different types of wheel pants as well as none at
all. Even flown with all the wheel pant fittings hanging out in the
wind. No differnce in the trim, although it was much draggier without
the pants.

In theory I've had to pick up a bit but whatever it was is not noticable

My axles came already dirlled an tapped. There is no reason why you can not
do it. The end of the axle where it is drilled and tapped is not a stress
factor area.

You don't actually NEED a hole anywhere on the axle, depending on what kind
of wheel pants you have. Many wheel pants are split either vertically or
horizontally, and fit together. If they're not split, you can split them
and add a joggle to reattach the halves. Then you sandwich a piece of .090
