Thanks god the rotax 912 does'nt need a mixture mechanic,only a choke
cable! After 15 years using a push-pull friction knob on my Kitfox I made a
simple throttle quadrant with bowden cables ,very comfortable and quick to use.

The important thing to remember when using flexible cables is to
secure the sheath so it does not move when the inner cable is pushed
/ pulled. Also, oil it well on install and each year on the annual

I use a friction lock on the throttle, a Vernier on the mixture and a button
lock on the carb heat.
I like the idea of being able to make small adjustments in the throttle
setting with a Vernier, but, I know that I would forget to push the button
when I needed to go around and advance the thrott

This really is a personal preference issue as any of the standard throttle
cables/quadrants will work just fine. My KR has a vernier throttle in the
center, my SuperCub has the throttle mounted into the left side trim panel with
a friction adjustment under the panel. My last plane before that

I used the "lawn mower" push pull cables on my throttle using the
"wire grips" (see below) and they work great. You can attach a rod
end bearing or a fork on the ends. I used 4 in my throttle run,
throttle handle, carb, and two at the reversing arm. My left mounted
throttle assembly (see

Jeff,
I also have a vernier, but for the mixture as with this one, you have to
push a button to move it in and out, but then turn it for fine control. Do
they make a vernier for the throttle, where you do not have to push a button
on the end to move it in and out? If that is what you have how wo
I believe Tony Bingelis would say to make sure the two control knobs are
different. Different color is obvious, but also different sizes, and
perhaps different types of lock to prevent accidental activation of the
throttle when you intended to lean the mixture, for example.
I happen to have had t
e and some money.
Again this is my choice and works great for me, but there aare other ways and
throttle quandrants is a whole nother arena.

The standard would be a friction lock type. The vernier takes a bit to get

never used a vernier throttle, I would not recommend using one on a first
flight in a newly built experimental aircraft. No heckling from th
Don't know about anyone else, but I'm using a Cessna-style
vernier/push-pull 'combo' cable for both mixture & throttle...
Push the button in to push/pull, or don't push it & twist...
'course, coming from C172s, I'm used-to that setup...

Mark L,
I was wondering about the cables you used on your Ellison TBI carb for
throttle, mixture & carb heat? In looking at the control cables in AS&S
they have many different lengths and also the choice of straight cable or
10-32 threaded ends. What worked out to be the best solution for you

Bud,
For the throttle, I am using an A820-black friction lock with straight wire
cable end. The cable end is attached to the carb arm using a WG-1
Thanks Mark, I suppose with that type cable, you could buy the longer cables
and cut them to the length you need.
