The UPS man visited me again today and left my new "Great Plains" 5 Pt.
engine mount today which has finally brought an unknown to a head.
The mount is made to be secured to the Firewall with 1/2" AN bolts but
the plans show a "Rand Mount" that uses smaller (4) bolts on each of of
(4) s
for FLYING and the time for building
is OVER.

Unless you are making your forward deck removable, I would highly
recommend installing nut plates on aluminum plate. At some point you may
want to remove the engine mount.

Thanks.
The RR plans do not give any clue and on top of it the GP 5pt mount has 5/8"
4130
tube with integral round steel bearing plates on the Engine side and it just
seemed like something beyond a "Wood Washer" would be needed on the cabin side
but no clue. I was thinking 1/8" aluminum f

So, what difference does it make. Seems to make more sense to have the
nuts where you can easily see them.

I agree with Dan and so does the inspector the finaled
If the nuts on the backside come off, it takes longer for the
engine
to pull the bolts out. For the real reason, talk to an A&P, Virg

Most of your certified aircraft have the bolts going from inside out,so that
you can put torque stripes on the nuts to make sure there is no movement. And
for added protection I would use a bolt and nut that you can cotter pin.But
I like as much safety as possible.Just my thoughts.
