This is not true according to FAR part 61.31.k(2)(iii). I cut and pasted it
from faa.gov below:

Well Dean, I'm 53 so naturally, I've had a little more time for the

however, I cannot agree with you that our measurement system is better
because of our success.
Larry,
A heated pitot is part of the minimum equipment list to certify the airplane
as IFR. I want to be able to legally file IFR and maintain my proficiency
with the KR even though I'll only go under VFR weather conditions. I

Dan,
Take a look at part 91.205 . There is a VFR, VFR night, and IFR section
with the equipment required for each. As indicated in my earlier post, you
need to be aware that there might be additional requirements linked to this
required equipment in other sections of the regulations. At least 9
Joel,
Your charging system needs to run between 13.2 and 13.8 volts. Otherwise
you will not be changing the battery back to full charge. The exact voltage
depends on the type of battery. What RPM are you at with your 11.7 volt
reading? At idle the alternator does not put out sufficient current
Mark,
Your update was great. I'm about at the same stage with my cowl. I'm going
to use your suggestion of sheet rock mud. I used a dry micro slurry and it
was a disaster. In your text descriptions you mentioned that you were going
to put on two layers of glass then pop the cowl off and put on

The idea of seeing you naked in the street comes under the heading of too

Does anyone know where I can locate a used AN5814-12? It's a 12VDC heated
pitot/static probe. Looking at Aircraft Spruce has given me sticker shock,
they want $495 for a new one. That's double what they were a couple of
years ago!

Dana,
Since you went over to the "Aluminum Side" I have wondered if you had given
up your creative aircraft skills to become another Van's aircraft assembler.
I picked up a quote from Dickens today that has helped me to understand you

Larry,
The best thing to resolve your issue is to put some two part pour in place
foam on the edges and let it "weld" the blocks together. This way you end
up with a continuous foam core without gaps or hard glue joints. It works
out great because you don't need to be too careful about fit of th

Steve,
I would recommend that you invest in TIG. It is the most versatile of the
methods available. MIG is best suited for production where the process is
worked out and repeated for volume operations. My personal favorite machine
is the Lincoln Square Wave 175.

I would suggest that you contact Great Plains Aircraft Supply and purchase a
2180 upgrade kit. Your money would be much better spent going that route
than turboing an 1835. You will need to go into the engine and adjust the
compression ratio, add a dual oil pump and many other m
