My KR2 that had the canopy "issue" has a front hinged "pop up" canopy. The
latch was (changed now) a central knob between the seats that pushed 2
rods, one on each side, through holes in tabs that are attached to the
canopy. One of the things I disliked about it is that it was never easy to

No, ZS-UKU was a KR2, what I am saying is that Sakkie Halgreen (builder
and original owner of ZS-UKU) died in a crash of a KR2 that went into a
flat spin but that plane was not ZS-UKU.
ZS-UKU did have a spar failure and it was a KR2 but it had no crash history.

Thanks for the summary!
I would just like to clear up the misconception that Sakkie Halgreen was
killed in ZS-UKU, the accident and the flat spin was NOT in ZS-UKU but a
different plane. ZS-UKU was not involved in an accident.

Just a note on the Sakkie Halgreen crash. It was not in ZS-UKU but a different
plane! UKU was not involved in a crash.
The plane Sakkie crashed in crashed due to a balance weight bolted to the prop
hub coming off and breaking the prop. Due to the now rearward CG the plane
entered a flat spin.
Hi Larry.
Yes, the one wing was found some distance from the rest of the wreckage.
Apparently it was quite obvious that the spar broke under the seat. I am
